GRADES 6, 5 & 4 Well done to all the gymnasts who competed this event. I hope you all enjoyed your day. I was pleased to hear plenty of noise coming from the Carlisle supporters. The grade 5 girls did very well. We will be having our annual Grades party at Giannis on Tuesday the 29th March, so make sure you book your seats and your meal. Its usually a fun evening and a nice reward for all the hard work. The old girls did us proud !!! We all had a lovely day at the Grades 3,2,1 & vol 1, at Newcastle on Sunday. All six gymnasts from Carlisle qualified to represent the North of England at the National Grades Comp to be held in Kettering in April. It was very stressful to watch, but well worth the trauma !!.I hope everyone involved in the Gym club will join me in congratulating the Gymnasts and Julie & Maria who have worked so hard in training to achieve these results, they really deserve it. I think all the supporters came home with sore throats ( well I did !!) Good luck to all gymnasts who are going this weekend. I have placed a link on the events page to directions to Newcastle gym, in case any one needs them, just print them off. Let me start by saying a huge well done to all our girls who did so well at the recent 2 piece novice comp in Barrow, plenty of smiley faces at the end of that day. Whether you won a medal or not you all did really well, (except, please learn to present properly !!).If any one has a story about their day, please email me or see me in the gym, also any good photos of the presentations. On Sunday-6th-march, our older girls are off to Newcastle to compete in their Grades Competition. For these girls it is also a chance to see if they can make it to the National Finals in Kettering. They have all worked really hard and I'm sure you will join me in wishing them well, enjoy your day, girls, pass your grades, and good luck. The following week it's the turn of the younger gymnasts to go to Newcastle for their Grade's comp. For many it will be a first trip to Newcastle. Above all else, enjoy it and do your very best. Supporters you will need your loudest voices !!. it is a lot noisier than Barrow !!. Some of you may have noticed I have started making leotards for sale in the gym. I have been a dressmaker (ex bridal)for many years, and have finally got round to making Leo's. The idea is simple, try on a navy blue Leo ( the plain boring ones that are samples only, not for sale !!)to see what size you need, then pick your fabric from the samples, choose a design off the ones available ( or maybe do your own !!) add sparkles if required, then see me and I will sort it for you.simple. there will also be a variety of my own makes to buy off the rail. When I get time, I will be putting a page on this site, with further details. JANUARY / FEBRUARY. Firstly, may I wish everyone a happy new year from all at the gym. Not a very good start really was it !. I know a lot of people were affected by the floods, and I would like to pass on our best wishes and hope that things are sorted out for you as soon as possible. The gym club itself suffered some flooding as you are all aware, I would like to say a huge thank you to all who helped in getting us up and running again so quickly. I must also say congratulations to Maria and John on their good news !!! The girls are training hard at the moment for their future competitions. Firstly,Barrow with the Cumbria 2 Piece Novice. We have many new competitors this year, and I hope they all try to do their best and really enjoy their first competition.Come and cheer them on, they deserve it. If any of the gymnasts would like to write a short story about their day, I will put them on this site. NOVEMBER / DECEMBER. November was another busy month for the gymnasts who were competing. They went to Newcastle for the North of England Regional Championships. The older girls did very well. After that Kelly Park went to Aldershot for the Challenge Cup Competition. She managed to come 6th on Bars, so was really pleased, and rightly so. In December we held our annual Christmas club competition, Apart from a cold start ( someone forget to press the button, on the heating timer, but she has an excuse)everyone seemed to enjoy the day. For some of our younger gymnasts it was their first taste of competing, and they did really well.We added some new events this year, like the handstand comp, won by Sharna Blair. Who could straddle lever to handstand, to win a key ring, well done little ones, no comment old girls !!!.After the main comp, some of the little ones, not old enough to compete came and did a little display, ably conducted by Julie !!, then all the girls held a roll the coin comp to win a leotard voucher kindly donated by Milano, Katie Viech won that. We then let the parents try and amid fierce competition, Lucy Davidson won a leotard of her choice made by Heather. It was all good fun and I hope you all enjoyed the day. Lastly may I on behalf of all at Carlisle Gymnastics Club wish you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER. Megan and Kelly competed in the Alpha Factor Competition in September, this was the first time we have entered gymnasts in this event. Both the girls did really well ( see results) and everyone had a really good weekend,we are now hoping to enter more girls next year so work hard girls !!. The Cumbria County Championships were held in Carlisle again this year and all the gymnasts did really well. There were some very close results, It was really nice to see some of the younger gymnasts came to watch, and a huge thanks to all parents who helped on the day. We are always short of helpers, so if any one wants to volunteer their services please do so.On the same day the Cumbrian Run was held. Some of our parents had entered this to help raise money for the club, some even had to miss watching their children compete !!, I hope it was worth their hard work and effort, they have trained hard for months, Laura had a really bad cold, and Shaun had a sore knee, but they battled on, the things some people do for this gym club !!. Well done to all of you, it is appreciated.Back to the subject of helpers, many of our new members may not realisle that with the exception of Maria ( without whom there wouldn't have been a gymnastics club) none of the coaches are paid for the work they do, if anyone has ever seriously thought that they would be interested in coaching, please enquire, training courses are available, and with so many new members we really could do with some extra pairs of hands and eyes !!. Also Judges, we are really short of Judges, again full training is available, the more we have the better. We have also hosted a gymnastics week this half term on behalf of ST AIDENS SCHOOL, this is the first time we have held an event like this and it has been a huge success, all of the children taking part seem to have really enjoyed it, and we hope some of them will consider taking up gymnastics as their sport, ( more coaches, quick !!) It proves there are a lot of talented youngsters out there. Some of the older girls ( or should I say more experienced not old !)came & did a diplay for the children and their parents. There were lots of ooh's and ahh's and one or two argh's as well !!. I hope it inspired these young ones to join, it made me realise just how hard our gymnasts work and how much they have achieved, they should be proud of themselves as we are of them. All of the gymnasts are training hard for future competitions, many of them their first !! keep up the good work. AUGUST 2004. The summer months have been a mixture of training, holidays, ( for those lucky enough !!)and some fundraising activities. The duck race and barbecue were good.We also had a visit from some gymnasts from Scotland, with their coaches. I hope they all enjoyed their stay with us, and thanks to the families who helped with accommodation. Kelly and Megan are training hard for the Alpha Factor competition in September. This is the first time we have been to this event and we wish the girls well, hope they enjoy the weekend and I'll report back when its over with the girls view on what it was like. I have added more photo's of recent events on the photo's page. JUNE,/ JULY 2004. Hooray, the new sprung floor is being delivered on 25th-May-2004. I am so looking forward to seeing if our gymnasts can bounce!!!. In preparation to this great event,a mass clean up in the gym is taking place. Shaun Haughey kindly arranged a donation of paint from Dulux, and a group of helpers spent last Sunday afternoon cleaning the Gym, this Sunday they are going to paint the walls, so we should have a nice clean gym when the floor comes.Talking of new floors, can I ask everyone to be very careful with the new floor,ie, No outdoor shoes, especially heels, and no food or drink to be consumed on the floor. On May 1st we went bag packing in Morrisons and raised over £400.00, thanks to all who helped, and to Morrisons for having us. The more support the better.I hope everyone has a nice day and good luck to all the girls. If any one wants to go along and support the gymnasts, please do so, February 2004. This month saw many of our new gymnasts compete for the first time at Barrow. I hope you all enjoyed the day and well done girls, see results for a full list. They all did really well. As I'm sure everyone is aware,( impossible to miss really!!!)Maria is expecting her 3rd child any day now. We would like to wish her well with the impending birth. There is a sweep stake running in the club to guess the birth date, and the weight of the new baby. Details and a list are on the gym door, all proceeds go towards fundraising for the club.
