Carlisle Gymnastics
Club Newsletter Issue 18 2006
A big thank you to everyone
involved in any way with the fundraising since the last newsletter
it has been a very busy time!!

some wonderful prizes once again this year which had all been
donated. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes.
Party Night Yet another
great night was had by all. Thank you to all the ladies who worked
very hard once again to give us another good night. The party
was not only a good night but also managed to raise £202.63
towards the clubs fund raising.
Coffee Morning The
Coffee Morning raised the sum of £135. Thanks to everyone
involved, it was especially nice to see some new faces there not
only helping out but also providing some delicious cakes for sale.
The Yellow Moon catalogues
are out one again, this is full of great ideas for stocking fillers
etc. Please have your orders back at the club by Monday 6th November.
If you have not received one of the catalogues please see one
of the coaches.
We are once again having
a Bags-2-School collection. Please bring your bags into the gym
as near to Thursday 2nd November as possible as due to a lack
of space we will be unable to store these bags. Everyone should
by now have received a bag to fill, if not or if you require more
bags place see one of the coaches.
We are once again bag packing
at Morrisons on Saturday 2nd December from 9.30am. Please try
to come along to help, its hard work but well worth the effort
as other people are putting their hands in their pockets for a
change!!! The more people we have there the more money we will
collect. Last year we raised £828.91 and I am sure with
a little bit of effort (and lots of helpers) we could beat the
£1,000 mark this year. So please come along and help even
if its just for a short while. Every little helps!
It has been a very busy
time recently with various fundraising events and the club would
like to take this opportunity to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone
for their help and support. Just over a year ago the club formed
a social sub-committee, since then the members of the social committee
have taken over the running of the fundraising events (and introduced
some more). This has been very successful, taking the strain
away from others who are active in the club in other ways. The
committee is always looking for more volunteers and you can do as little or as much as you
like. If you are interested in joining the social committee or
just helping out in any way, or have some interesting fundraising
ideas please contact Geraldine on 01228 529322.
SUMMER CAMP 2006
As you are all aware
the club held a Summer Camp for the first time this year. This
ran for 5 days at the end of July. We were lucky enough to have
John Pirrie, Roxanne Jennison and Leonni Jennison attending as
part of the coaching team. John is an International coach and
Roxanne and Leonni have held between them, the honors of being
British Team Silver medalists, Junior British
International Gymnast, National Squad member and past Junior British
floor champion.
The camp was attended
by 42 gymnasts from Carlisle, Dumfries and Haltwhistle gym clubs.
The general timetable for the camp was warm up, dance session
and then training on all four pieces. The gymnasts also formed
Olympic teams and within these teams they had to make up there
own dance to a set piece of music. On Tuesday we ran the Olympic
event when the gymnasts took part in different games related to
their training, there was also a quiz and they all performed their
dances. On Tuesday evening the gymnasts all went swimming at
St Aidans and then had a buffet supper. Special thanks to all
of the ladies who helped out with the buffet, Geraldine, Wendy,
Sue, Jane, Nicola, Rose, Joan and Carol.
On Wednesday, the
final day of the camp, the parents were invited to watch some
of the work the gymnasts had been doing, this included the dances
they had learnt and some of the warm up games.
All in all it was
a very enjoyable week with the gymnasts working hard but also
having a great deal of fun. Extra special thanks to all of the
coaches involved as this was a very intense week for them all.
